About

Ibn Rushd is a student run scholarly journal dedicated to promoting the field of Arabic Studies at Williams College. The main focus of this journal is to share the academic, artistic, and study abroad endeavors of students and faculty in the Arabic Studies Department in English and Arabic in order to provide a balanced medium for sharing the wide range of information about the rich historical and cultural connotations of the Arabic language.

We have chosen to name our journal after the Andalusian polymath Ibn Rushd because he was instrumental in helping bridge the gap between Medieval Europe and the Islamic World through his work on Aristotelian philosophy. Had it not been for his commentary on and translations of Aristotle and Plato, Medieval Europe may very well have lost the bases for modern philosophical thought. Utilizing Ibn Rushd as the inspiration for our journal, it is our hope that the students of Arabic at Williams can mirror Rushd’s legacy of promoting understanding and dialogue between the U.S. and the Middle East through their academic and cultural endeavors.
